Eligibility
Students who are legal residents of the Owen J. Roberts School District are afforded transportation to and from school as follows:

  • Students attending District operated elementary schools;
  • Students’ attending District operated secondary schools;
  • Students’ attending approved non-public schools within District boundaries, or not in excess of ten (10) miles of District boundaries by nearest public highway;
  • Students’ attending special education classes or schools approved by the District.
  • Transportation is also provided for students’ attending or participating in after school extracurricular activities.
  • Kindergarten students ride on the regular morning and/or afternoon buses. Noon transportation is not provided.

Students are permitted to ride only those buses they are assigned. However, the District’s Transportation Officer or School Principal or Assistant Principal for reasons of illness, emergencies, day care, disciplinary, etc may grant exceptions. These exceptions are granted only upon request and must be approved by the above before being granted. Normally these students will be issued a pass to ride any one of the elementary, secondary, or non-public buses.

Any student granted permission to participate or attend after school activities may ride one of the late afternoon (4:45 p.m.) buses. Since the clientele of students for these activities varies from day-to-day, passes are not required to ride these buses. Late afternoon buses are not intended to provide door-to-door service, but rather to bring students closer to their place of residence.

When students misbehave on late afternoon buses, drivers are to take disciplinary measures in the same order as they do on other regular bus runs. However, in all probability, school administrators have departed for the day, therefore, all disciplinary fractions should be reported to the appropriate school immediately the following school day. Under no circumstances are students to be denied or removed from the bus. Prior to departure of any bus run, questionable incidents should be brought to the immediate attention of “Security” or the “District’s Transportation Office”.
