The mission of the Owen J. Roberts Middle School is to provide an educational program for the adolescent which is age appropriate and exploratory, and to develop the following attributes:

Middle School Services

| ATP Program: The Academically Talented Program is provided for students who have tested into the program. The goals of the program are to challenge, enrich and support the students through differentiated instruction and curricular opportunities while addressing individualized strengths and needs.
IST: The Instructional Support Program is designed to help identify the learning needs of students experiencing school difficulties and provide the student with academic, behavioral and/or social skills support to increase their success in school.
Learning Support: Learning Support programs are available to students with identified needs. These services may include direct instruction with a learning support teacher, itinerant support or support within the regular classroom.
Guidance: The counselors provide support for academic success, developing self-esteem, making appropriate decisions, and adjusting to the middle school environment.
RAP: The Roberts Assistance Program is comprised of a group of specially trained teachers, counselors and administrators who meet on a weekly basis to prevent crisis situations through a process of early intervention with students and their families. Referrals are made to outside agencies and programs to assist students in making a healthy adjustment to the middle school.

PTA |
| The middle school maintains a very active Parent Teacher Association. All parents are encouraged to join and become an active member in their child’s education. Regularly scheduled evening meetings take place in the school where valuable information is shared about school life. The PTA sponsors school dances, Reflections Program, and monthly team newsletters. Parents are encouraged to volunteer for membership on a variety of committees including hospitality, homebase representative, communications, publicity and fundraising. | |

Testing Programs

The Middle School utilizes a variety of benchmark and standardized assessments throughout the school year. The purpose of these assessments is to monitor student progress, to identify areas of needed growth, and to inform classroom instruction. Among the assessments utilized are STAR Reading, STAR Math, 4SIGHT, SDRT, and PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment). The PSSA in reading and mathematics is administered in both seventh and eighth grades. The PSSA in science and writing are administered only to 8th grade students. | |
